Air Senegal flight HC301, which was operated by Transair, “overran the runway” at about 1:14 a.m. on Thursday, Senegal’s Ministry of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport said in an statement in French.

The aircraft had been carrying 85 people, including two pilots and four cabin crew members, the ministry said.

Ten people were injured, the ministry said. Four people were in life-threatening condition, a sergeant with the Senegalese military said.

Videos circulating online appeared to show a Transair plane with the serial number 6V-AJE lying on a grassy bank. The left engine of the plane appears damaged and the brush close to the runway appeared to be covered with Aqueous Film Forming Foam.

Blaise Diagne is the main airport servicing Dakar, the Senegalese capital. The fight had been destined for Bamako, Mali.

The family of the late Nollywood actor Junior Pope allegedly placed a charm called ‘Isi Atu’ in his village home to identify those responsible for his death.

There have been calls for Junior Pope’s family to treat his death as murder instead of drowning, as there were no visible signs of drowning. Fans have demanded an autopsy. In a twist, Pope’s family has not accepted his demise as described by survivors. They’ve decided to plant the ‘Isi Atu’ charm in his village home to expose those responsible for the thespian’s death.

A video was posted on TikTok by a certain Akusinachi, claiming that the charm ‘Isi Atu’ had been placed in the late Jnr Pope’s village home. The implication is that anybody involved in his death would be identified. In his own words:

‘This thing you see in this video, in the Igbo language, they call it ‘Isi Atu’. That is to tell you that if your hand is in the death of Jnr Pope, their people won’t agree. We are Nsukka people, anybody whose hand is involved, if you conspired for his death, we won’t agree, his people won’t agree. This place is his place in the village, Nsukka people won’t agree, we won’t agree.’

Junior Pope and four others drowned in the Anam River while returning from a movie location, with actress Adanma Luke as the movie’s producer. The tragic incident occurred on April 10, 2024.

Since then, there have been different accounts of the incident from the survivors, with many pointing out Nollywood actor Tochukwu Okafor, also known as TC Virus, as the main suspect in his colleague, Junior Pope’s demise.

In fact, Adanma Luke recently heavily criticized TC Virus for using Junior Pope’s demise to make content while using Fanta as the attention-grabbing plot to cash in on the late actor’s death. Adanma Luke took to the comment section of one of his skits to call out her colleague.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the application for bail by the detained leader of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.Justice Binta Nyako, in her ruling on Tuesday, said the suit was a gross abuse of the court process and an attempt to continue to litigate on issues that have already been ruled on.She, however, advised the applicant to approach the Court of Appeal on the issue of bail, should he feel aggrieved by the decision of the court. The trial judge stated that since the ruling in July 2017 when Kanu was granted bail till date, the suit has suffered 15 adjournments and the matter has yet to enter a substantive hearing. She added that she was not satisfied with the reason the IPOB leader gave for his failure to appear in court for the continuation of his trial.Justice Nyako stated that from the records of the court, Kanu was represented by his lawyer on the day his bail was revoked, likewise his sureties and he has never been denied a fair hearing. She held that a court could vacate a previous order when confronted with a cogent and verifiable reason. In the trial judge’s words, “In the instant case, I have not been given any, neither have I been given any reason to set aside the order.”She insisted that the IPOB leader must explain the reason why he breached the previous bail that was given to him before he could enjoy another favourable discretion from it.Tuesday’s ruling comes three months after the court declined to release the embattled IPOB leader on bail on March 18. %

The UK is facing a “significant rise” in monkeypox cases over the next week, an expert has warned, with some health clinics stopping people walking in as they try to slow the spread of infections.

About 80 cases have now been confirmed across 12 countries – including 20 in the UK – with the majority of infections in Spain linked to a sauna in Madrid.

The president of the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) told Sky News that some clinic staff have received the smallpox vaccine, which can be effective against monkeypox, and talks are taking place about giving doses to “potential risk groups”.

Dr Claire Dewsnap said: “Our response is really critical here.

“There is going to be more diagnoses over the next week. How many is hard to say.

“What worries me the most is there are infections across Europe, so this has already spread.

“It’s already circulating in the general population. Getting on top of all those people’s contacts is a massive job.

“It could be really significant numbers over the next two or three weeks.”

Dr Dewsnap said she expected more monkeypox cases to be identified around the UK.

“I’m definitely expecting a significant rise over this next week,” she added.

Scientists baffled by monkeypox spread

Dr Dewsnap said she was concerned about the impact on other infections as staff are diverted to deal with monkeypox, when the “public health budget has decreased significantly over the last 10 years”.

“Some clinics that have had cases have had to advise people not to walk in,” she added.

“They’ve primarily done that because if somebody has symptoms consistent with monkeypox, we don’t want people sat in waiting rooms potentially infecting other people.

“They’ve implemented telephone triage to all of those places.”

Scientists say they are baffled by the disease’s recent spread in Europe and North America.

Cases of the smallpox-related disease have previously been seen only among people with links to central and West Africa.

But in the past week, Britain, Spain, Portugal, Italy, US, Sweden and Canada all reported infections, mostly in young men who hadn’t previously travelled to Africa.

The UK Health Security Agency has said a notable proportion of recent cases in Britain and Europe have been found in gay and bisexual men.

Sauna linked to majority of Spain’s cases

There are about 80 confirmed cases worldwide and 50 more suspected ones, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said.

France, Germany, Belgium and Australia reported their first cases on Friday.

In Spain, 24 new cases were reported on Friday, mainly in the Madrid region where the regional government closed a sauna linked to the majority of infections.

To date, no one has died in the outbreak.

Monkeypox typically causes fever, chills, rash and lesions on the face or genitals.

The disease, which was first found in monkeys, can be transmitted from person to person through close physical contact and is caused by the monkeypox virus.
